179328 Iwakuni - Kintai Bridge (Kintaikyo), Iwakuni Castle

Kintai Bridge, located in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi. The view is calm and scenic.
You can take a boat ride if you want.

The water current is actually quite strong though the water looks calm.

Look at the steps, they adjust the height of the steps to get the curve. Very impressive.
I read from the write out that this bridge was restored and completed in year 2004. The bridge was washed away by flood after flood. So I guess, the water current must be really very strong. While here,  I went under the bridge to explore.
The car park is just next to the river bank
The river bed is laid with huge rocks. Water is so clear that you feel like going into the water. Wow. Nice place. I really do not mind staying here.
You may wonder : Just come here for the bridge only? No no no.... After you cross over, you will be greeted with restaurants and a park. Well, we are very lucky. It is the sakura season. We joined the locals in Hanami and eating food from the make shift stalls.
The other end of the bridge, you will be greeted with restaurants, and ropeway station and a park.
The bridge from the park
Families enjoying hanami
Grilled, juicy oyster at 500 yen per plate. Delicious.
The view via the ropeway while ascending to Iwakuni Castle
Walk a little after getting off from Ropeway
Iwakuni Castle
Display inside the castle. Walk to the 3rd level, there is a viewing gallery where you can look down. Awesome view!!!
I think it should be good to come here during autumn too. Cherry blossom is more difficult to catch. While autumn leaves, we have 3 weeks period. If you are lucky enough, you may be able to catch the cherry blossom full bloom here. Just like us.

Entrance fee : To walk on the bridge 300 yen
Kintai Bridge and Iwakuni Castle including Ropeway 940yen. Remember to keep the ticket with you. You will be required to show your ticket on your return trip from Iwakuni castle.

Note : Ticket counter did not ask me if I want package ticket. I ended up buying only the 300yen ticket. Luckily the counter over the other end of the bridge willing to let me exchange for the 940yen ticket.

How to get there -
From Shin Iwakuni Station - Take a Bocho Bus. 350yen per trip.
The Bus operates 2 times per hour. So if you miss the bus, you need to wait for another 30 to 45 minutes.
From Kintai bus station, it is quite confusing on which bus to take to return to Shin-Iwakuni as they operate a loope service. Thus, we ended taking the wrong bus and still have to pay 200 yen per person for 1 bus stop ride. We ended up walking back to Kintai bus station and took a taxi back. We check with the taxi driver and he quoted 1620 yen before we climb into the taxi. Strangely, he really reach Shin-Iwakuni station at 1620 yen.

Note : We are not able to locate a tourist information counter at Shin Iwakuni Station.
Signage were put up, all in Japanese. Luckily the train station staff is quite helpful. So they write to us what is the next train time and bus time. Well, they cannot speak good English but they are very helpful.
