180331 - Hiroshima Peace Memorial park

Image
Before visiting this place, I wonder why would tourist like to visit this place? After visiting this place, I find it very difficult to accept that so many innocent lives were lost because of greed by one person. Lives were lost in 2nd world war not only in this country, but all over the world. It was quite an emotional place. (Cause I would also imagine what our parents went through during Japanese occupation during these times as well, and innocent lives were sacrificed because of this) Atomic Bomb Dome - Not to be confused. This is not the place where the atomic bomb strike. It was a building left after the whole area was destroyed by the atomic bomb. This is the actual site where the Atomic Bomb drop 600 meters above ground. It is a hospital now. Sakura trees lay next to the river. Its bloom time.  The park is full with Hanami going on. We are shaded by flowers. Can you believe that? The park is near Hondori. Walkable distance.

180327 - Hagi, Yamaguchi

Image
We read so much about Hagi Castle Town and decided to make a visit. The late Shoin's Former Residence. Yoshida Shoin, an important figure from Hagi who inspired revolutionary ideas during the twilight years of Japan's feudal age (mid 1800s). The samurai area was full with old buildings. Its the season of orange. You can see most of the neighbourhood has at least 4 orange plants. All bearing orange fruits. I am so delighted with the Oranges find. ha ha ha It is nice walking the picture-some streets We took a shuttle bus to visit the Hagi Castle Ruins.  The castle is located next to the sea. So we can view the beach. There is a big park full of cherry blossom  The two things we see that represent the castle, the first one,  the moat The 2nd item that represent the castle? The Castle Wall. No wonder it is called the Hagi Castle Ruins. The wall is not repaired. Anyway, in any castle, there is always a shrine. Some interesting memories. In order not

180326 Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, Fukuoka

Image
Uminonakamichi Seaside Park measures nearly four kilometers from end to end It is a huge park. Located in the northern side of Fukuoka. It is better to cycle. For us, we like to walk. And we realised it is very huge and get lost a few times. We did not visit the zoo, and the aquarium. Only visited the gardens.  Our intention to visit here is to catch the cherry blossom. We realised we are too early. The canola flowers came as a surprise. The children park here is huge. You can find lots of families with children playing here A few coloured cherry blossom plants The Rose garden. Found 2 roses. LOL Found the cherry trees over another end of the park. Frank buy the canola field. Tulips. So beautiful We were too early for Cherry Blossom. However, we are still able to view tulips, and other flowers. This park is more for families with children. They can let the children play in the big playgrounds. If you love flowers, it is a good place to visit too. Ho

180329 Onomichi, Senkoji Park

Image
Senkoji Park- A view from its top of the mountain. The whole place is set ablaze by the sakura. Just like what all website has said, Onomichi is beautiful during cherry blossom season.  Views over Onomichi and its port Mihara Station and the local JR train.  The crowded ropeway passengers. We queued for at least 30minutes from getting into the lift then to ropeway The view going up the mountain via ropeway I must say, other than the cherry blossom, there is nothing much to see there. Tourist shops will close as early as before 5pm. So, it is good only to visit during hanami time. How to get there From Hiroshima Station - Take the Shinkansen to Mihara Station From Mihara Station, take the local train to Itozaki station From Itozaki Station, take another train to Onomichi station It was not written that we need to change train at Itozaki station. Only when we realised there is no train to Onomichi station, station staff told us about it. Otherwise, w

180330 Miyajima Island

Image
Itsukushima, also known as Miyajima, is a small island in Hiroshima Bay, western Japan. It is known for its forests and ancient temples. Mt Misen 535 meters above sea level, is another must visit place when we visit Miyajima Island. Just offshore, the giant, orange Great Torii Gate is partially submerged at high tide. It marks the entrance to the Itsukushima Shrine, which was first built in the 12th century. I must say, the highlight of this trip is not the Tori Gate. The trip to Mt Misen is a trip that we will never forget. When we visited the Island, it was about 10 plus in the morning. Clear water surrounds the shrine. The Tori gate was submerged in the water The Town just a few step from the ferry station is already crowded with tourist. However, you will be surprised that most of the restaurant were not open. You can only find a couple of snacks shops.  The most common snack shop or bakery you can find is the miyajima cake. You find quite a number of bakery di
