We read so much about Hagi Castle Town and decided to make a visit.
The late Shoin's Former Residence. Yoshida Shoin, an important figure from Hagi who inspired revolutionary ideas during the twilight years of Japan's feudal age (mid 1800s). |

The samurai area was full with old buildings. Its the season of orange. You can see most of the neighbourhood has at least 4 orange plants. All bearing orange fruits. I am so delighted with the Oranges find. ha ha ha |
|
It is nice walking the picture-some streets |
|
We took a shuttle bus to visit the Hagi Castle Ruins. |
|
The castle is located next to the sea. So we can view the beach. There is a big park full of cherry blossom |
|
The two things we see that represent the castle, the first one, the moat |
|
The 2nd item that represent the castle? The Castle Wall. No wonder it is called the Hagi Castle Ruins. The wall is not repaired. Anyway, in any castle, there is always a shrine. |
Some interesting memories.
In order not to miss our last bus, we decided to take the JR bus back to Yamaguchi from Hagi bus station. (A different one from the station we alighted). When we reached Hagi Bus station, the station was closed. The road was blocked for road works. Everything was written in Japanese. There is no one at the station to assist us. I finally figure out by matching the photograph of Tourism Information "counter" shown on the the board to the outside building next to the station.
When I went to the "Tourist information counter", it is a big building with a big office. Its like visiting a big tour agency. The lady staff was also not aware that the "bus stop" has been move. So 3 of them (2 lady and 1 man) ran out to the bus stop to read the signage and brought us to the bus stop outside the station next to the road. It was just a pole showing JR timetable. I guess they are also not sure. So they also watch us from afar for at least 15 mins before our bus arrived. In a remote town, anything can happen. At least, they are very nice people and we can get help easily.
How to get there.
Take a Shinkansen to Shin Yamaguchi
From Shin Yamaguchi take a local train to Yamaguchi Station 30mins
From Yamaguchi Station, take a local JR bus to Hagi Town 30 to 45 mins
